Largest range of stepper and AC motors in Europe
With new models and variants, Oriental Motor, Japan's largest manufacturer of stepper and AC motors, can now offer what it believes to be Europe's broadest range of two-phase hybrid stepping motors
With the introduction of a number of new models and variants, Oriental Motor, Japan's largest manufacturer of stepper and AC motors, can now offer what it believes to be Europe's broadest range of two-phase hybrid stepping motors.
With all options considered, the 2-phase range comprises over 200 standard motor variants.
Further units are available, such as those with drives, US/Japanese configurations and those with modified features such as shafts, lead lengths and connectors.
The range falls into six frame sizes, three stack lengths and step angles vary between 0.05deg and 1.8deg.
"The company's main goal is to ensure that we have the largest possible range available for the most common types of applications and specifications," explains Mark Checkley, sales manager in the UK.
"As far as I am aware, we can now offer the largest standard range of 2-phase hybrid stepper motors in Europe".
Applications are widespread considering the size of the range.
However primary applications will include medical equipment such as blood analysis equipment, infusion pumps, DNA analysis equipment and X,Y,Z stages.
In the packaging sector, where the motors are just as 'at home', applications will include conveyors, indexing, wrapping and label positioning and application.
With customer compatibility being high on the agenda, Oriental Motor is able to offer a choice of winding characteristics so that the user is not tied to one form of drive.
All of the winding options (per size of motor) offer comparable performance so that the user does not have to trade one type of drive off against another.
189 variants are stock items.
Three-day delivery is standard, with next day as an option.
Should delivery from Japan be necessary Oriental Motor can still promise a standard nine-working-day schedule.
The range comprises six different variants.
The first is a standard version with the second being the same but with an IP65 terminal box - ideal for packaging and labelling applications or any harsh environments.
The third variant, the P-Type, is a high response unit that uses higher power magnets.
A 42mm (size17) P-type motor can offer the same performance as a 56.4mm (size 23) motor - with the only sacrifice being a 5mm longer body.
The fourth variant is the J-Type - a high inertia model.
This uses a larger rotor but keeps the same body size.
With a static angle error of just 0.034deg, it is ideal for micro-stepping applications.
The fifth variant, the M-Type, offers higher resolution.
Thanks to a greater tooth count it can offer a step angle of just 0.9deg, half that of a standard stepper.
The final variant, the SH, is a geared version.
Careful consideration given to the design makes sure that the gearboxes do not look like an afterthought as they all fit within the envelope of the motors.
With six ratios and smooth rotation at low speeds, they are ideal for high inertia drive and low-speed applications.
