Its wide usage should allow manufacturers to either rationalise ingredients across a wide product range or allow its use in more areas.
Supplied as a powder or an emulsion, the addition of water causes the polymer to swell, building viscosity from about 1 percent concentration, so it offers excellent yield value.
Even at this low level of addition, viscosity is sufficient to suspend active ingredients, delivering a smooth skin sensation.
Most formulations will only require between 0.5 to 1.5 percent actives to achieve the required viscosity.
Typical uses include; cosmetic creams, lotions, hair gels, skin toners and cleansers, shaving creams, moisturisers and suncreens.
Octacare RM100 is designed to also reduce manufacturing time.
It requires no pre-heating so can be cold processed if necessary and can be added at any stage of manufacture at between pH 6 and 11.
No neutralisation is necessary before use, so product formulations can be simplified and processing time reduced.
Octel Marketing Manager Nick Dixon says that the Octacare RM100 innovative chemistry would offer the widest versatility and help manufacturers to maximise value.
"Our product range is designed to provide benefits which support easier manufacturing and product design opportunities for our customers", he said.
Earlier this year Octel Performance Chemicals gained a prestigious green award for another of their cosmetics ingredients - a novel, natural and biodegradable chelant.
