New radar water level sensor for hydrometry

OTT Hydrometry launches a new wide measurement range Radar Water Level Sensor (RLS), with high accuracy, suitable for solar or wind powered use in remote locations

The new RLS radar water level sensor will replace the previous 'Kalesto' radar sensor from OTT, which has enjoyed world-wide popularity for many years.

Radar sensors are ideal for contact-free water and liquid level monitoring in difficult to measure and remote locations or those which are subject to flooding.

However, OTT Hydrometry Managing Director Simon Wills says, "The RLS offers a number of extremely attractive features which will make it suitable for an even wider variety of circumstances.

For example, it employs pulse radar rather than a frequency modulated wave, which means that high levels of accuracy are still possible: but crucially, power consumption is just 2% of its predecessor.

This means the sensors have the ability to operate from solar or wind powered battery systems in almost any location".

New features of the RLS also include a wider measurement range, up to 35 metres, with +/-1cm accuracy across the entire range; more communication options (RS232, RS484, SDI12, or 4-20 mA).

At 2.2kg the RLS is smaller and lighter than its predecessor and a new ergonomic design makes it easy to install and lighter to handle.

Simon believes that customers will love the new radar sensor, adding, "There will be no need for users to get their hands wet.

The RLS can conveniently be sited well above the water, reducing the danger of flood damage, even in extreme conditions.

Monitoring has shifted up a gear with the latest technology in the RLS.

The Kalesto has been very popular with customers, but we are moving into a new era: the RLS is a great improvement over its predecessor at all levels, from operational range, to cost of ownership!.
