Explosion proof coils with innovative
technology
Achema 2006 shows a new generation of Parker Lucifer coils for controlling solenoid valves in hazardous areas, with improved performance from innovations in material and encapsulation technologies
Two important new product developments with Parker Lucifer hazardous area instrumentation will be on show at Achema 2006 First, Parker Lucifer will publicly demonstrate a new generation of coils for controlling solenoid valves in hazardous environments, which improve performance through the innovative use of materials and encapsulation technologies

To achieve flameproof protection, the new coils replace the more usual metal housing with a novel plastic design.
This housing features an extremely small internal space to ensure that any spark does not have enough oxygen to ignite and cause an explosion - and integrates an interchangeable safety fuse.
This approach saves an enormous amount of space and weight.
The new explosion-proof coils meet ATEX standards, providing EExdmIIC T4, T5 and T6 or EExiaIIC T6 level protection.
Parker Lucifer can equip a large proportion of its solenoid valve designs with the new electrical parts, in particular the low power (2.5 W) and intrinsic safety types.
PNEUMATIC CONTROL USING FIELDBUS-COMPATIBLE VALVE ISLAND.
At Achema 2006, Parker Lucifer will highlight its unique EExPress fieldbus-compatible manifold which allows pneumatic actuation systems to be sited in hazardous (Zone 1 and 2) processing environments without the need for expensive explosion-proof pressurised cabinets.
The EExPress Bus Manifold is a stackable valve island system that fully integrates 5/2 solenoid valves, control electronics and input sensors for Zone 1 and 2 environments.
It is compatible with the Profibus DP fieldbus - the protocol preferred by most process industries.
One Profibus address can operate up to 32 individual 5/2 modular solenoid valves, or a combination of valves and actuator position sensors.
The valve island's fieldbus compatibility also supports advanced remote diagnostics down to individual valve and sensor level - further supporting the demanding needs of the continuous processing sector.
The fieldbus connection to the terminal can be made by either optical fibre or copper - with the aid of intrinsically safe circuits.
EExPress is fully certified to ATEX and LCIE standards, is CE marked and EMC tested and approved.
