Packaging Automation hire solution at Heaven Made
The ability to respond quickly to the needs of leading retailers is key for UK food manufacturers, and being able to rely on equipment manufacturers to help is vital
So when the company, based in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, wanted to explore new packaging formats as it sought to launch a new range of razors and blades, it turned to the experts at Packaging Automation.
At their Cheshire headquarters a series of exhaustive trials on razors film-sealed into blister packs was undertaken in an ultimately successful bid to come up with exactly the format Personna demanded.
The machine chosen was the latest version of the PA182, a semiautomatic, hand-turned, rotary table heat sealing machine.

PA ready with big ideas to help small firms
Small specialist ready meals manufacturers face stiff competition in the UK: PA has developed a host of support services for the smaller business, to advise on the use of tray sealing technology
It has long been a popular choice among the company's host of food packaging clients and, with its ease of use, reliability and speedy tool changes, it is now finding increasing favour for packaging a range of non-food items.
Clients in both sectors point to the robustness and versatility of the PA182, coupled with the simplicity of its film feed, as being among its key features.
The elimination of bug traps and ease of cleaning are other pertinent points, particularly when strict hygiene considerations need to be met.
And the Packaging Automation hire deals have also proved to be both highly beneficial and appealing.
All of these points did not escape the notice Mr Bob Phillips, operations support manager of Personna International, in choosing to take a PA182 on hire - initially for a month, then for four months and now for a longer period due to other products being considered for this type of pack format.
"At the moment, the hire deal is open-ended, which is one of the many good things about the flexible deal offered by Packaging Automation: We wanted something which would bring fresh packaging formats to new ranges of disposable razors and cartridge sets so that our sales and marketing department could send out samples.
We are constantly updating our product portfolio and are always seeking to send more aesthetically pleasing packages out onto the market".
So how does he sum up the Packaging Automation service, and the PA182, both of which, he insists, have played leading roles in the latest Personna marketing exercise: "Hiring was a big bonus for us and so convenient, the initial sample sealing trials which we did with PA were so successful that it made the choice of machine supplier for this project really easy," he said.
"And as for the machine, it really is very good, portable, so easy to install in almost any area of our production facility and very versatile".
It might have been the first time his company has used Packaging Automation but, in Mr Phillips' opinion, it is unlikely to be the last.
He has been impressed with the company ethos and says he will be back as and when the need arises.
