A new highly effective method for measuring the surface level of granulated materials, powders and rocks on stockpiles and within silos and bunkers, has been introduced by Partech Instruments The Hawk Sultan is an ATEX compliant non-contact, acoustic wave transmitter that uses a range of transducer frequencies to suit the requirements of even the most arduous application

Capable of measuring up to 60 metres in standard configuration and 120 metres is its long range setup, the Hawk Sultan emits a high powered acoustic pulse that is reflected back from the surface of the material being measured.
The reflected signal is processed using purpose-designed software that includes Bin Mapping for rejection of false echoes and echoes from structures within the tank.
The transmission of these high powered, low frequency pulses ensures that losses due to vapour and foam between the transducer and the target are kept to the absolute minimum.
The use of frequencies that are substantially lower than competitive products allows the Sultan to operate in applications that would defeat other ultrasonic systems.
The Sultan is extremely flexible in terms of power supply offering 2-wire loop power, AC and 4-wire DC supplies, with exactly the same functionality.
There is even a Modbus variant that allows networks to be built up with multiple transducers on the same network.
The Modbus version is also ideal for se in remote low power applications in combination with RTU's such as the Dynamic Logic DL71xx series.
"The lower frequencies offered in the Sultan allow us to look at applications that would previously have required high cost, Radar systems," comments Angus Fosten, Sales and Marketing Director Partech Instruments.
"Acoustic wave level transmission has many advantages over traditional ultrasonic devices, not least of these being its ability to see straight through foam and dust.".
