Using Pavilion model predictive control technology for the last ten years, Braskem has received millions of dollars in savings from improved petrochemical production efficiencies and reduced costs

Braskem, the largest Latin American petrochemical manufacturer has received over USD 20 million in value during their successful ten-year deployment Pavilion Technologies, the world leader in model-based software, has announced that it has reached a significant milestone with Braskem

Using Pavilion MPC model predictive control technology for the last ten years, Braskem has received millions of dollars in value annually from improved production efficiencies and reduced costs at its facilities throughout South America.

"Pavilion has delivered value to Braskem year after year for more than a decade," said the Braskem Automation Corporate Manager, Esdras Demoro: "Not only have the Pavilion best-in-class control solutions enabled us to significantly improve our existing production processes, they have allowed us to maintain our competitive edge by helping us consistently meet our profitability goals.

We are proud of our ten years of success with Pavilion MPC technology".

Braskem produces 5.7 million tons of products per year, operating 13 manufacturing facilities across Latin America, such as Alagoas, Bahia, Sao Paulo and Rio Grande do Sul.

Braskem produces primary base petrochemicals such as ethylene, propylene, benzene, caprolactam, DMT and thermoplastic resins, gas, UHMW-PE and GLP.

Braskem initially selected Pavilion in 1996 to increase production rates and quality while further reducing operational costs.

After evaluating several MPC solutions from multiple vendors, Braskem implemented the Pavilion MPC solution to improve control of its polymer reactors on its Spheripol polypropylene line.

The Pavilion solution has helped Braskem increase production by 2.4 percent, reduce standard deviation by more than 50 percent on all controlled polymer variables, decrease transition time by 20 percent and reduce costs.

As a result, they were able to realize more than USD 2 million in value annually on the project.

Since then, Braskem has expanded its deployment of MPC to four additional lines.

"Pavilion is pleased to celebrate this significant milestone with Braskem," said Ralph Carter, CEO, Pavilion Technologies: "At Pavilion, we are committed to sustained value through our ValueFirst customer engagement process and our solutions are based on the most powerful modelling technology available.

We are honoured to play a role in the Braskem ability to achieve market leadership, drive product innovation and reduce costs for more than 10 years".

The Pavilion polymer solution addresses the most difficult challenges facing polymer manufacturers including increased customer demands, rising feedstock and energy prices and increased competition.

Based on the Pavilion innovative and proven model-predictive control technology, the polymer solution delivers optimisation across key areas of the production process including the reactor, extruder and silo, allowing manufacturers to push the process closer to operating constraints while enhancing product quality.

In addition, Pavilion provides real-time environmental management and production performance management.

These applications leverage the company's strong domain expertise and the powerful Pavilion8 software platform for modeling, control, monitoring, analysis, visualisation, warehousing and integration.

As a result, customers achieve faster time-to-value and greater long-term value than alternative solutions.
