Parker Hannifin has launched the latest version of its innovative modular HPLA High Performance Linear Actuator, providing high speed, high precision and high load capacity

Parker Hannifin, the world's leading manufacturer of automation and motion control technology, has launched the latest version of its innovative modular HPLA High Performance Linear Actuator, providing high speed, high precision and high load capacity.

Designed for use throughout the manufacturing and process industries, the HPLA now features a choice of timing belt or rack and pinion drives with plastic or steel guide rollers, for extremely high speed, high precision and high load applications.

At the heart of the HPLA linear actuator is a robust drive module, capable of moving at speeds of 5m/sec, carrying loads of up to 1,600kg and delivering a thrust force of 5,500N, with repeatability to within +/-0.05mm.

The timing belt drive module is capable of providing up to 20m of travel, while the rack and pinion drive can be configured for up to 50m of travel; this unit can also be installed in any orientation and can easily be extended still further by splicing two or more HPLA units together to provide almost limitless travel.

In each case, the load-carrying carriage can be supplied with either synthetic load bearing wheels running in a high precision anodised aluminium profile, or hardened steel wheels, lubricated for life, running on steel guideways.

The former configuration is ideal for cleanroom or test and inspection applications, while the latter provides higher load bearing capacities for heavy duty applications found in sectors of industry that include materials handling and palletising.

The inherent strength and rigidity of the lightweight aluminium profile has been made possible with the use of FEA, creating a high strength to weight ratio.

This reduces the overall mass of the actuators and improves the energy efficiency of the drive electronics.

The modular construction of the HPLA linear actuators makes them easy to specify, install and use.

For example, units can be configured as single, dual or multi axis systems including all necessary accessories such as switches, sensors, encoders and cable carriers.

The HLPA linear actuators can also be supplied without a drive module, for use as free-running guide units, and are available with a range of options, including fitting or connecting plates, position sensors and limit switches, integrated linear encoders and cable carriers.
