Steam filters for food processing

A new range of steam filters have been specially developed to allow steam to come into direct contact with food, while removing liquid condensate and 100% of all visible particles

Parker Hannifin has launched a new range of steam filters that have been specially developed to allow steam to come into direct contact with food, while removing liquid condensate and 100% of all visible particles Called the Balston Steam Filters, these new filters can reduce maintenance requirements and extend the working life of valves, cookers, heat exchangers and other equipment

Balston Steam Filters are capable of providing flow rates of up to almost 1400Kg/hr, and of removing over 98% of particles and liquid condensates down to 0.1 micron in size.

This is not only beneficial in food preparation but also serves to minimise contamination and prevent particulate matter from entering downstream process and preparation equipment.

In addition, Balston Steam Filters can significantly reduce both the amount of carryover of boiler feedwater chemicals; and the steam condensate that may blend with food ingredients when steam is used for agitating, mixing or cooking.

As a result, the taste and odour of the food prepared is unaffected, giving a far superior result to previous steam preparation methods.

Perhaps as importantly, the new range of filters meets and, in some cases exceeds, a variety of requirements and regulations for use in food product processing.

These include all of the requirements stipulated for Indirect Food Additives used as Basic Components for Repeated Use Food Contact Surfaces as specified in 21CFR Part 177 and Current Good Manufacturing Practices, 21CFR Part 110, and all requirements of the US Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act.

Balston Steam Filters comply fully with the 3A Accepted Practices (Number 609-00) for food quality steam production and the requirements of the Health Protection Branch of Health and Welfare in Canada, and have been accepted by the USDA for use in federally inspected meat and poultry plants.
