Delegates from Profibus Ireland attended the PI Competency Centres ninth meeting, to hear of technology updates, and have several training courses scheduled in Ireland this Autumn
The University of Applied Sciences in Winterthur (Switzerland) hosted the ninth meeting of the Profibus International Competency Centres (PICC) from 11-13 September 2006 A relaxed environment and magnificent surroundings formed the back drop to the meeting

A total of 21 PI centres were represented from Europe, North America, Africa, and Asia.
The meeting opened with a marketing presentation, which explained the new corporate identity of PI (Profibus and Profinet International).
The mission statement of PI indicates that it is a leading automation organisation for communications solutions, serving users, members, and the press with the best solutions, benefits and information.
Profinet topics dominated the technical presentations ranging from: MES and Profinet, Porting Profinet I/O, IRT for Profinet, Profinet in process automation and new Profinet functions.
Profibus topics included: timing in multi-master systems, troubleshooting, intrinsic safety, device registration and GSD handling.
One of the new topics introduced covered I/O link, which is system of connecting sensors and actuators, and provides data as well as parameters and diagnostics information on the devices.
The autumn series of Profibus Ireland courses will be offered as follows.
* Certified Profibus Engineers course 18-20 Oct 2006, Cork.
* Profibus Technician Course, 26 Oct 2006, Limerick.
* Certified Profibus Installers Course, 1 Nov, 2006 Limerick.
