The growth of Profibus in Irish manufacturing facilities means an increased need for Profibus training and support, in particular with new courses available, and back to back training courses in Cork

There is an increasing use of fieldbuses in particular Profibus in new and existing facilities As the installed base for Profibus increases, the requirements for training and support also increase

This resulted in a busy 2006 for Profibus Ireland.

The activities involved conducting training courses, supply of Profibus diagnostics equipment, on site troubleshooting, and support for the end users.

The Profibus courses are offered in three categories.

1) The one day Profibus installer's course is aimed at electricians who install the network cable and connectors.

2) For maintenance personnel, a two day Profibus technician course is on offer.

3) A three day Profibus Engineers course caters for commissioning and engineering staff.

All courses are 70% subsidised by FAS, the Irish training and employment authority, under the Competency Development Programme (CPD).

The next set of courses includes both maintenance and engineers courses scheduled back to back for 5-9 Feb, 2007 in Cork.

The introduction of new network components to the Profibus capability has made it possible to cater to a wider range of applications.

Products such as Profihub can replace up to five repeaters and can reduce installation cost and save apace.

Additionally hand held diagnostics equipment such a Net-test II provide the mobility required to diagnose the cabling, connectors, and communications ports.

For PC based diagnostics systems there is Profitrace, which provides the USB interface to any PC, with the possibility for remote monitoring and data collection.

We are looking forward to an interesting 2007 with the introduction of new PLC programming courses for Allen Bradley PLCs to complement our existing courses on the Siemens S7 and Mitsubishi FX range of PLCs.

These courses are offered at basic and advanced levels, and are also 70% subsidised by FAS.

We will also be adding SCADA courses to our list and will start with a WinCC SCADA system initially and extend to other systems based on demand.

For those interested in Profinet (Industrial Ethernet) there is an easy to read booklet, which is published by PTO in USA and is entitled: "Profinet or the story of Pretty Polly, Sweet Sue and the White Knight".

The booklet takes a light hearted approach to industrial Ethernet, with special sections devoted to explaining and rejecting some common myths and facts.
