Field balancing of wind turbine blades
Prueftechnik Condition Monitoring present their "Field balancing of rotor blades" service to minimise wind turbine vibration, at Husum Wind 2007, in Hall 2 Booth 2A24
Wind turbines are subject to vibration, depending on the type of the system These vibrations can be minimised by balancing the system

Prueftechnik developed suitable measuring equipment to perform linear measurements from 0.1Hz and higher as well as one and two-plane field balancing as a service.
Rotor blades of wind turbines with relatively strong, low frequency vibrations can be balanced using one-plane balancing.
Four steps are necessary: Diagnosis measurements, Imbalance run, Balancing runs and Repeat diagnostic measurements.
Imbalance in the wind turbine could have many causes.
The rotor and rotor blades can have mass imbalances and/or aerodynamic imbalances.
Mass imbalances can be caused for example by uneven rotor blade masses, uneven mass distribution in the rotor blade, flange and pitch errors in the hub, hub imbalances, eccentricities of the entire rotor, a bent shaft, water penetration and icing.
The reasons for aerodynamic imbalances can be blade angle errors, uneven rotor blade profile forms, rotor blade damage and effects of repairs on the rotor blade, pitch/cone error, indirect incident flow and external location-related excitations.
Drive trains can have mass and moment imbalance in the generator, coupling or brake disk.
Pruftechnik is an independent system partner for Condition Monitoring and Diagnostic Services on wind power plants.
The company product range for monitoring wind farms extends from online condition monitoring systems to diagnostic services in their GL-certified Monitoring Center.
The latest issue of the service magazine 'Telediagnose' will be published at Husum Wind.
Topics included are field balancing of rotor blades, reducing vibration with alignment targets and monitoring of low-speed drive train components.
