The Process Industries Centre for Manufacturing Excellence (PICME) takes its lean manufacturing message to the Europarc Innovation Centre, Grimsby on Tuesday May 17 The seminar, organised by Humber Chemical Focus and AJM Consulting, is free to all manufacturing businesses and will feature new PICME associate Professor Roger Benson: he will speak on 'Meeting the Far Eastern challenge'

Presentations from Senior PICME Engineer, Michael Glass, and PICME Engineer, Sarah Redfern will also be given and the latter will focus on the operational excellence being achieved at PICME client, Akzo Nobel.

The event starts at 1030 and finishes at 1500.

The focus for the day will be on what successful companies do to increase their manufacturing performance using Lean and Agile Manufacturing ideas.

Other presenters on May 17 will include Yorkshire Forward, Humber Chemical Focus, Crystal Faraday, and AJM Consulting.

The last PICME seminar - in association with Scottish Enterprise - sold out in Glasgow, Scotland on Tuesday March 15.

Dr Glyn Hughes, PICME associate and Humber Chemical Focus CEO says that 'the business case for this work is unarguable - a message that many companies are increasingly taking to heart.' PICME research shows that despite good progress over the last 3 years the UK's chemicals and process industry still needs to increase its use of the lean manufacturing approach to make its manufacturing globally competitive.

Most enterprises in UK chemicals manufacturing could still benefit from working that bit 'smarter'.

Mark Lewis, PICME CEO says that 'as ever, the key to unlocking this potential is not about cash or capital.

It's about people - helping them work more effectively - and using best practice in measurement and improvement.'.
