Pilz is launching the PNOZ Ex safety monitoring relay with an input circuit ATEX certified for use in hazardous areas, ideal for emergency stop switches, guard interlocks and other safety devices

ATEX-approved safety monitoring relay reduces installation costs Pilz is launching the PNOZ Ex safety monitoring relay with an input circuit certified for use in hazardous areas

This will be of interest to a wide variety of end users, machine builders and system integrators who have emergency stop switches, guard interlock switches, position switches and optoelectronic safety devices sited in hazardous areas.

Such applications occur in the petrochemical, chemical, textile and food and drink industries, plus others where combustible gases or dusts can be present.

Compared with alternative solutions, the PNOZ Ex simplifies wiring and reduces installation costs.

The PNOZ Ex relay features an intrinsically safe input circuit, a normally-open, volt-free auxiliary contact and a normally-open auxiliary contact for input circuit short-circuit indication to the hazardous area.

In addition, there are a further three normally-open safety contacts and one normally-closed auxiliary contact for connection outside the hazardous area.

This means that users can install an emergency stop, limit switch or other safety device in the hazardous area, together with a reset button circuit.

LEDs on the front panel indicate the status of the device and provide diagnostic information such as the status of the fuse for the N/O auxiliary contact.

The PNOZ Ex relay has ATEX approval for use in Ex area II (1)GD [EEx ia] IIB/IIC.

It benefits from dual-channel operation and can therefore be used on machinery classified to BS EN 954-1 Category 3 or 4.

Each PNOZ Ex safety relay is supplied complete with operating instructions and the necessary quality certificate.

Note that the PNOZ Ex safety relay must be installed in a safe area; only the intrinsically safe input circuit can be taken into a hazardous area.

In addition to the PNOZ Ex safety relay, Pilz also offers compact, non-contact PSEN magnetic safety interlock switches with ATEX approval for use in hazardous areas.

For more information about the PNOZ Ex safety relay and/or the ATEX-approved PSEN magnetic safety switches, please contact Pilz.
