IEC 61508 and its harmonised equivalent in the UK, BS EN 61508:2002 (Functional safety of electrical/electronic/programmable electronic safety-related control systems) is a standard that is having an ever-increasing influence in manufacturing companies.
This is true at an organisational and an individual level.
The Pilz one-day training course introduces the standard, explains the fundamentals and, most importantly, shows how the standard's principles can be applied in practice.
Starting with an overview of the scope and structure of IEC/EN 61508, the course goes on to clarify the complex relationship between this and other standards such as BS EN 954 and IEC/EN 62061.
Delegates are then taught about Safety Integrity Levels (SILs) and their determination - using both quantitative and qualitative methods - and there is an explanation of the phases that make up the overall safety lifecycle.
Personal competency within the scope of IEC 61508 is also covered, and a session is devoted to the essential topic of hazard and risk analysis and its role as described in IEC/EN 61508.
Scheduled to take place at the Pilz training facilities in Corby, Northamptonshire, on 4 October 2005, the course starts at 9:00 and ends at 4:30.
Course documentation and light refreshments are included in the price.
Alternatively, if companies have several delegates interested in attending, Pilz can organise on-site training.
Please contact Pilz to request more information about the EN 61508 training course or to reserve a place.
