Foamglas Terostat for ConocoPhillips
project
Pittsburgh Corning Foamglas cellular glass insulation has been specified by ConocoPhillips for an extensive upgrade of its 30 year old Teesside plant, for the major volatile compounds recovery project
ConocoPhillips is investing GBP36m on the oil terminal at Seal Sands to improve the plant environmental credentials, by significantly reducing vapour emissions that occur when crude oil is loaded into oil tankers from site storage tanks Once commissioned, the upgraded plant will be able to collect 100% of the vapour displaced during ship loading, at a rate of 8000M3/h, with a minimum of 85% of all non-methane volatile organic compounds (NMVOC) recovered, reducing the discharge of hydrocarbons (including benzene) and substantially improving the environmental standing of the site

Insulation of hot and cold HVAC piping

Trace heating is also used throughout the process and Foamglas easily accommodates this requirement without the risk of scorching.
Foamglas Terostat has already been extensively proven in numerous installations at the Seal Sands site and is now established as the site standard hot and cryogenic insulation material for Conoco Seal Sands NGL processing facility, where well over 7km was installed on pipework during the last year.
Foamglas Terostat is a cellular glass insulation, which uses a factory applied polymer coating that eliminates the requirement for wet mastics or polymeric wraps on site.
Installation time is dramatically reduced when compared to these site applied adhesives and Terostat, being a solvent-free product, combines environmental sensitivity with economy and efficiency, as its pre-application reduces waste on site and creates a much cleaner working environment.
The oil and gas industries are increasingly turning to Foamglas cellular glass insulation for a wide range of applications due to the outstanding abilities of Foamglas to prevent corrosion under insulation and provide increased fire safety to insulated process systems.
Foamglas has a 100% closed cell glass structure which is infinitely impermeable to the passage of water and water vapour - even before any outer weather coating is applied! It is non-combustible to Euroclass A1 and can withstand a range of operating temperatures from the coldest cryogenic application, right up to 430C.
Additionally, Foamglas is specified by the most demanding industry standards, including the renowned Norsok standards, because of its outstanding performance benefits and suitability for the most demanding industry applications, both for the North Sea and for the UK mainland.
