At Offshore Northern Seas 2004 (ONS), Parker Instrumentation will show major innovations for offshore applications, which dramatically reduce the size and weight of pressure and flow instrument installations, and simplify deepwater applications To be launched at the show is a larger size of Pro-Bloc - Parker's one-piece double-block-and-bleed 'monoflange' manifold

Now available with ball valves in sizes up to 25mm (1 inch) to accommodate higher flow rates, the manifold eliminates numerous joints - and potential leak paths - compared with double-block-and-bleed arrangements constructed from discrete components.

The height of a complete double-block-and-bleed assembly including the flange from the process piping can now be as small as 33cm, depending on the Pro-Bloc model chosen.

Weight is also greatly reduced, with Pro-Bloc weighing around 7 kg in its smallest variant.

This reduction in mass has the additional benefit of reducing loading and vibration stress, for greater in-service reliability.

A second major exhibit at the show is an extension of the monoflange style of double-block-and-bleed manifolds, which provides two instrument connections instead of one.

This allows an assembly to support both a local visual gauge, and an electronic transmitter that connects to the remote control rooms.

Developed initially as a custom solution to help save weight and space on satellite platforms for the Angostura project in Trinidad, the manifold concept is ideal for offshore platform projects and illustrates the capabilities of Parker's European design and manufacturing facility.

Parker Instrumentation will also be highlighting two other innovations.

The first is a range of tube fittings that can handle pressures up to 15,000PSI/1034bar but which operates using the rapid-assembly compression principle - saving up to 20 minutes per connection compared with traditional cone-and-thread fittings.

New larger sizes in Parker's MPI family now provide an ideal solution for handling the high tensile, duplex and super-duplex tubing often favoured for running down high pressure, deepwater wells.

The second product is a modular substrate for downstream analytical and laboratory instrumentation flow control systems.

These new surface-mounting fittings - the IntraFlow system - advance performance on several fronts: dramatically reducing the amount of space required, minimising the volume of sample flow paths, and speeding construction and reducing cost of ownership.

The substrate fitting is the result of several man-years of design effort and meets the analytical industry standards set by NeSSI: the influential New Sample/Sensor Initiative.

The NeSSI roadmap has three generations - IntraFlow satisfies the Generation 1 mechanical requirements and is a versatile foundation for the planned Generations 2 and 3.
