High performance engine air filtration
system

Parker Hannifin has launched a new high performance engine air filtration system, from the Racor ECO range, developed specifically for use in heavy duty commercial vehicles and mobile plant

Parker Hannifin, the worlds largest manufacturer of motion and control technology, has announced the release of a new high performance engine air filtration system, from the Racor ECO range, developed specifically for use in heavy duty on-road and off-road commercial vehicles and mobile plant, with diesel engines rated between 300 and 500 horsepower Called ECO III, the new unit has been designed in collaboration with Original Equipment Manufacturers and end users to be far easier to install and service than traditional closed system air filters, and to be fitted closer to turbochargers or cylinders for improved performance and engine efficiency

The ECO III system comprises a specially developed filter housing, manufactured from a high impact, injection moulded and glass-filled nylon polymer, that is capable of withstanding under-bonnet temperatures of up to 120C, and a high efficiency filter element that provides maximum engine protection for extended operating periods.

The filter unit is designed to be quick and simple to fit during engine manufacture, while allowing rapid element replacement, without special tools, once the vehicle is in service.

The mounting base is reversible, and both outlet and inlet ports can be positioned to meet the needs of each installation.

In addition, the element housing incorporates keyed channels to ensure it locks in place and prevent element misalignment, and is supplied with standard, quick-release mounting brackets to eliminate the need for custom-made mechanisms.

Each element can easily be replaced, with an extended moulded lip on the element head end plate allowing removal without the risk of skin contamination.

An integrated CCV port enables a crankcase ventilation exhaust line to be connected directly to the filter unit to create a fully closed air system that meets the forthcoming Euro 4 legislation.

Perhaps as importantly, the inlet port is constructed so that the air flow is directed at an angle across the filter element; this ensures that contaminated air is dispersed evenly around the element, eliminating the risk of point loading and helping to increase change-out intervals and reduce the problem of pressure drop across the filter.

Similarly, a wide radius 16.25cm outlet port helps to improve air flow still further.

The ECO III filter elements provide a flow rate of up to 900CFM and incorporate four separate stages of sealing for maximum engine protection: an outer sealing surface that captures dirt on the used filter as it removed; internal and external seals to prevent contamination reaching the engine; plus, if an optional safety filter is used in severe-duty applications, a final continuous ring seal between the safety and primary filters.

The new Eco III filter system can easily be configured to meet the needs of a wide range of engine applications and is part of a range of Racor engine products that include CCV filters, heavy duty combination air filters, pre-cleaners and air inlet fittings and scoops.

ECO III elements do not contain metal components, so can safely be incinerated. Request a free brochure from Parker Hannifin ...
