Parker Hannifin has provided a range of high performance pneumatic valves and cylinders to engineering apprentices at Airbus to help with a training project modeling the A380 nose landing gear

Parker Hannifin, the world's largest manufacturer of motion and control technology, has provided a range of high performance pneumatic valves and cylinders to engineering apprentices at Airbus, one of the world's leading aircraft manufacturers, to help them carry out a training project that involves designing and constructing a scaled model of the A380 nose landing gear The team of six, currently in the last year of their HNC Mechanical Engineering Course, are producing the fully functional model for their final project

The 1/5th scale model will feature computer controlled moveable parts and is being built using laser sintering technology, an innovative process that can replicate practically any metal technology.

"The model will be about a metre high, held in a frame," explains Tom Potter, an apprentice from the design team, we will fit the pneumatics system Parker has kindly provided to enable the functioning of the moving parts.

The top section will be removable so that it can be used for training and demonstrations in the future," Tom continues: "The support we have received from Parker throughout the project has been invaluable and their contribution of the pneumatics components has enabled us to design a fully functional model that will be used over and again to help future Airbus apprentices".
