World #1 online Zone 2 portable particle
counter
Parker Hannifin has introduced what is believed to be the world's first online Zone 2 classified ATEX-approved particle counter, for use with hydrocarbon and aviation turbine fuels
The new ACM20 Z2 particle counter system is compact and portable, allowing quick, accurate and safe detection of contaminants to be carried out at refineries, pipeline distribution terminals, storage depots and airports Designed to replace traditional and often time consuming qualitative test methods, such as clear and bright and gravimetric Millipore, the new ACM20 Z2 is the first device of its kind to offer online quantitative tests

In particular, it can be used to detect moisture and particulate contaminants down to four microns in size, that enter the fuel distribution chain during installation, maintenance or repair, or through damaged or worn parts, and is simple to use by engineers and technicians alike.
Based on the existing Parker ACM20 white light optical scanning technology, the new system produces accurate and reliable test results in just two minutes, with minimal waste and high levels of reproducibility, with repeat tests also being possible within two minutes.
As the tests are carried out online there is no risk of external contamination affecting results; these can simply be viewed on the built-in LCD screen or be stored and subsequently downloaded to a PC or laptop via an RS232 connection for further analysis.
The new system features a variety of self-diagnostic failsafe checks to ensure the integrity of sampling and final results, offers 300 downloadable memory tests for trend analyses and maintenance of statistical records for routine maintenance procedures, and is supplied in an ATEX approved stainless steel enclosure.
In addition, the ACM20 Z2 is classified as a Class A product for the aviation market.
Parker has also launched a version of the ACM20 to be used with the Energy Institute (EI) Method IP PM DK/06 and DefStan 9191, which incorporates a separate laboratory kit to be used as an optional off-line method for monitoring aviation turbine fuel contamination under laboratory conditions.
