Applied Weighing, the UK's leading manufacturer of weighing systems, has developed an innovative control and instrumentation system for the UK's second largest cement producers, Castle Cement
PSA operators installed the systems to cater for specific site conditions (including particularly wet natural gas) with the instruments running continuously 24-hrs-a-day.
Working with PPT Exploration and Production, PSA operators specifically configured speed loops to take properly representative samples of the natural-gas streams at appropriate locations onshore and offshore, so that levels of mercury are measured reliably.
The speed loops are coupled safely and leak-free to PSA Sir Galahad natural-gas measurement systems, which combine atomic fluorescence spectrometry (AFS) and gold-coated Amasil adsorption/desorption systems, to determine mercury at levels down to 0.1 picogram (pg) and over five orders of magnitude.
PSA natural-gas monitoring technology adheres to International Standard Organisation protocols (as laid down in ISO6978), uniquely providing mercury measurements on a 5-minute cycle.
To guarantee measurement quality, PSA has developed a calibration device which continuously checks the performance of the systems.
The integrity of measurements can be validated by introducing calibration gas into the speed loop.
This valuable tool inspires confidence in the measurements and reassures PPT Exploration and Production.
