Pinguin reaches targets with Proseal solution
To meet its targets for accuracy and speed, Pinguin Foods UK has replaced its previous packaging facility for the production of a new range of ready meals with a Proseal AP60-500 tray sealing system
Part of the global Pinguin Group, a specialist in frozen vegetable processing, Pinguin Foods UK is one of the market leaders and supplies the retail, foodservice and industrial sectors from three factories in King's Lynn, Boston and Bourne, as well as its European operations.
With a wide variety of pack formats required for its extensive product ranges, flexible and reliable automated packing lines are a key priority.
The company has recently added Oriental Express ready meals to its product range, which offer several recipes including Chinese Chow Mein, and Sweet and Sour Chicken.
Proseal was called in to the Pinguin Boston factory when their existing packing system for the range failed to meet predicted throughput targets.
Product spillage was also an issue.
"We turned to Proseal as we felt they could offer real solutions to the issues we were experiencing.
We had worked with the Proseal team previously and knew that we could rely on their experience in high volume integrated ready meal lines as well as excellent service," explains Duncan Eaton, Factory Manager at Boston: "We asked them to identify a permanent solution and they responded to our brief with the AP60-500, a competitive, very efficient system - the exact kit required for the task.
Our throughput target of 100 packs per minute was immediately realised and another major benefit is that, unlike before, the trays are fixed into the tooling which has solved our problems with spillage.
The tray de-nester is the best that we have seen.
We can now rely on accurate filling and fast line speed".
The AP60-500 is a high throughput modular linear tray sealing system with the flexibility to be incorporated into a fully automated turnkey production line.
It has been designed to run in conjunction with auxiliary equipment such as tray de-nesters, fillers, multihead weighers and labellers.
With throughput speeds of up to 160 packs per minute, the machine is ideal for a wide range of food products.
At Boston, the AP60-500 is working as part of a line that also comprises three multihead weighers and a carton erecting system.
Offering fully integrated control of the entire filling and sealing operation, the machine robust anodised aluminium and stainless steel construction - manufactured to food industry approved hygienic standards - provides long-term durability and reliable performance.
"Our previous system was German and we really appreciate that Proseal is a UK-based company and is therefore able to respond to any problems quickly and efficiently," adds Duncan Eaton: "The support we have received from the Proseal team has been excellent.
We are delighted with the solution - it is simple and cost-effective and has delivered exactly what it promised".
