Hand-held analysis for workplace gas
monitoring
Highly specific gas chromatography and a sensitive solid state detector have easy menu-driven operation, so that non-technical staff can routinely obtain consistent, laboratory-comparable results
The new VaporLab from Microsensor Systems sets new standards for hand-held workplace monitoring Highly specific gas chromatography and a sensitive solid state detector are combined with easy menu-driven operation, so that non-technical staff can routinely obtain consistent, laboratory-comparable results under field conditions

Sulphur Hexafluoride is an important industrial gas, used as an insulator in electrical switchgear and in metal processing: but it is also a very potent "greenhouse gas" so measurement is important
Challenging measurements like that of benzene in an atmosphere already contaminated with gasoline are made routine by the instrument's excellent selectivity - even similar compounds like xylene, ethylbenzene and toluene give no measurable interference, and benzene is detectable to below 0.1ppm.
At the other end of the scale, a convenient "Sniff" mode provides easy real-time surveying of concentration "hot spots" without the need for blind sampling.
Other applications include ethylene oxide, vinyl chloride, 1,3-butadiene and acrylonitrile.
The instrument has a built-in sampling pump and does not require a carrier gas supply or use replaceable absorption tubes - the saving on consumables alone will pay for the instrument in a year of normal use.
A full 8-hour day's work can be stored in the VaporLab and subsequently downloaded via wireless transfer to PC or Palm Pilot, so that no separate data logging is normally required.
Results are fully date/time stamped for easy auditing.
The VaporLab is intrinsically safe to ATEX standards and has a rugged impact-resistant case, so is ideal for use in the real world of refineries or chemical plants.
A rechargeable battery pack give 6 hours continuous operation.
