The company's investment in new people and new areas of work across its Shawbury and Billingham sites follows a detailed business review, by the company's MBO (Management Buyout) team, over the past four months.
Following the MBO restructuring of the company in 2002 the company has established a firmer financial platform from which the growth strategy can now be developed.
Managing Director Andrew Ward explains that 'the investment in new activities and new markets is intended to increase our current turnover by over 50% within the next five years.
It is an ambitious strategy but one that we feel is entirely possible, given the skills of our people and the demand for their services'.
A number of specific strategic growth areas have been identified.
In each case, the company will be recruiting New Business Development Managers, as well as additional technical support staff.
Rapra Technology's new plastics-based growth areas are.
* Environmental and recycling services.
* Medical and pharmaceutical services.
* Large research projects (U.K.-based, European and International).
* Regional support programmes in the UK and across Europe.
* Product design services.
* Ad-hoc product testing services.
* Information group - Non-research funded/dissemination projects.
'Now is the time,' says Ward, 'for innovative polymer businesses and for clients, customers, OEMs and other partners in industry to join with us in these business growth areas.
Our doors are always open to new ideas, outsourced projects and programmes and joint research ventures'.
The new Rapra growth areas are additional to, but will link with, the Rapra main traditional areas of business in materials consultancy, testing, polymer analysis and processing services - as well as database, publishing, conference and training services.
Senior staff from Rapra presented the key elements of the company's new business growth programme on its stand at the K2004 show in Dusseldorf and were able to describe the significant strides which have already been made in areas such as that of large EU supported research programmes, which are due to come onstream in 2005.
