Rapra Technology has been working with Sirane, assisted by support from Polymer Cluster, to develop a range of test methods and results for the innovative materials used in their food packaging

Rapra Technology, Europe's leading independent plastics and rubber research organisation, has been working with Telford-based Sirane assisted by support from the Wolverhampton-based Polymer Cluster.

Sirane manufactures a range of packaging and other products including specialised absorbents, bio-degradable, microwaveable and ovenable materials and protective materials for a number of food and other applications.

Rapra involvement included developing a range of test methods and results for the innovative materials used by Sirane in developing its packaging solutions for clients worldwide.

Richard Walton, Rapra Technology Marketing Manager says that 'we are delighted to be once more helping Midlands-based companies succeed - with help from the Polymer Cluster.

Our scientific and technology services help free up the creativity and innovation of clients such as Sirane.

They can focus on the marketplace and we can help ensure that all their materials and manufacturing are fit for purpose.' Sirane has been in business for just three years, and last year it successfully developed and launched over ten new products for the food packaging and processing industries.

Jointly founded by Simon Balderson and Ian Beardsall, Sirane now employs twenty people, with turnover approaching GBP1.5million.

'We have worked hard seeking new business opportunities,' says Balderson, 'and our products are now in use in such diverse areas as medical, air fresheners, food packaging and direct retail.' Both Rapra Technology and the Polymer Cluster will be exhibiting at the Plastics Design and Moulding (PDM) exhibition in Telford from April 12-14, 2005.
