The Read-out Instrumentation Signpost has just launched a new page dedicated to Wireless transmission especially in the field of process and automation.

This is an addition to the Standards area of the site.

On the surface phenomenal savings can be made in using wireless instead of expensive cable in manufacturing and process facilities, not to mention building and environmental applications.

However, as in all "new things," situations may not always favour the use of wireless.

The next few years will witness very interesting developments in the field of industrial communications.

Co-incidentally the January/February issue of Read-out, the print journal, published in Ireland, will cover the same area and examine how this "new" issue is altering industry not only in Ireland but throughout the automation industry worldwide.

The Signpost is justly famed for its Fieldbus pages which was started while the so-called "Fieldbus Wars" were at their height.

Other areas in the standards area which are covered by special pages are Cyber Security, CFR Part 11, Safety and, in the years prior to the turn of the century, the "Millennium Bug" was featured.

Indeed all these pages are still available on the site.

The signpost continues to be very popular among automation professionals throughout the world.

An average of 6000 individual visits are made to the site from around 100 countries each week to see the over 500 pages of news and resources covering areas like publications, acronyms, education, research, discussion (recently expanded to include blogs), directories and portals.

The Read-out Instrumentation Signpost website was first made available as an adjunct of the print publication, Read-out, Ireland's journal of instrumentation, control and automation, in 1995: however its reach has extended from a very small number of visitors in the early years, to around 500 per week in the year 2000, and has since further grown to the current size, far exceeding the coverage of the magazine.

This is why The Read-Out Instrumentation Signpost is subtitled "Measurement, Control and Automation Resources throughout the World".
