Foodex Live is sponsored by Reiser, the British Pig Executive (BPEX) and the National Federation of Meat and Food Traders (NFMFT).
Featured for the first time will be the Premier Products Competitions from the National Federation of Meat and Food Traders and supported by BPEX and the National Association of Master Bakers.
The Premier Products Competition categories include sausages, burgers, black pudding, pies and pasties.
And with more than 10,000 entries forms being distributed, 600 plus entries are expected to be vying for Gold, Silver and Bronze awards in each category.
The Gold Winners from each category will then go on to compete against each other for the Supreme Champion Award.
Designed for independent retail butchers and farm shops or similar, the main entry criterion for entries is that products must be cooked on the entrant's premises.
Judging, which will take place on Sunday April 6 and Monday April 7, will be based on blind tastings by a selection of judges from BPEX, the NFMFT, Ladies in Pigs (LIPS) and for the Pasty and Pastry section, the National Association of Master Bakers.
Deadline for entries via the NFMFT is 3-days before the show (3 April 2008) but don't despair you can also enter on the day at Foodex Live, Hall 17.

PACKAGING FIGHTS BACK!.
This informative seminar area in Hall 19 has been designed to meet visitor demands for quality information about packaging and its impact on the supply chain.
Sessions and speakers include the WRAP Sessions:.
* WRAP - The Waste Resources and Action Programme - will discuss how best to reduce packaging waste and its 'Love Food, Hate Waste' campaign; and United Biscuits will provide an insight into successful retail ready packaging.
* Lincoln University's Mike Dudbridge and associates will examine Automation in the Food Industry; capital cost risks especially where short term changes required by major retailers is a big influencing factor.
* Other speakers will include the British Plastics Federation which will examine developments in plastics for food packaging with an eye to environmental initiatives; and Claricom which will explore advances in track and trace systems: Package Coding Management (PCM) systems including coder control and pack validation.
FOOD SAFETY FORUM.
Run in conjunction with International Food Hygiene magazine (Hall 17), this free series of seminars, will feature 20 up-to-date topics to help food professionals improve skills and raise awareness of emerging food safety challenges and opportunities.
Subjects include:.
* How smaller food businesses can demonstrate their competence and gain accredited recognition.
* Applying HACCP management systems that are big enough to succeed and not too big to be a burden.
* Other topics: Auditing on-line; new technologies for preservation; the impact of imaginative new training methods on successful training applications; bio-films; crisis management and the latest thinking on decontamination and product protection; and effective GMP for allergen control.
Foodex Meatex forms part of Food and Drink World 2008, which adds up to about 1,300 exhibitors, 19 innovative features, 8 inter-connecting halls and 5 leading trade shows.
