'Designing out Waste, Gaining the
Advantage' event
The Resource Efficiency Knowledge Transfer Network is inviting contributions of papers and posters for its first annual conference, at the Royal Berkshire Conference Centre on the 15-16 February 2007
The Resource Efficiency Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) is inviting contributions of papers and posters for its first annual conference, which will take place at the Royal Berkshire Conference Centre, Reading on the 15th and 16th February 2007 The overall theme for the conference, which is targeted at industrial, manufacturing and engineering companies both large and small, is 'designing out waste in products and processes'; addressing unsustainable use of resources through the supply chain and 'closing the loop' from manufacture to use, through the adoption of recycled and re-manufactured materials

Charlie Rea, Knowledge Transfer Manager at the Resource Efficiency KTN, comments: "We're looking for people, particularly from UK-based industrial companies, who can talk to delegates about their innovative approaches to reducing waste, including projects that demonstrate how they achieved compliance with emerging legislative drivers.
This isn't just about how organisations can reduce waste from their manufacturing process, but also about how their design and development teams can help reduce waste by introducing sustainable design and 'design-for-recycling' best practice methodologies.
Industrial projects that echo the Resource Efficiency KTN three resource and technology themes are particularly appropriate here.
These are to make better use of materials and energy; to use industrial wastes as a source of new products; and to process recovered material into value-added resource.
It's these types of projects that delegates will want to hear about".
The conference will cover novel approaches emerging from the academic and research knowledge base and the industrial application of innovative technology.
Sections of the programme will run in parallel streams so that delegates can prioritise those themes closest to their own interests, as well as participating in more interactive formats and plenary sessions.
Both days of the event will feature crossover presentations that review key academic and industrial priorities in the Resource Efficiency community.
