'Rex Viva', the latest coupling from Rexnord, is ATEX approved and offers enhanced features to complement the well known and widely used Omega model ATEX certified to II 2G T4, the Rex Viva is ideal for applications right across industry in potentially explosive areas, especially in the processing, chemical and oil industries

Particular features of the Rex Viva coupling are its ease of installation, simple maintenance (with no disruption of motor or driven equipment), misalignment tolerance, vibration absorption, load shock resistance and lubrication-free design.

Also, its minimal component design and commonality of components across the product range mean inventory levels are reduced.

Unique to the Rex Viva is a special design feature that absorbs torsional stresses to minimise risk to motor and driven unit whilst ensuring maintenance is easy and quick to effect.

Maximum torques for the Rex Viva, across its 12.7mm to 110mm bore range, are 62Nm to 1271Nm respectively.

The Rex Viva coupling is available in two forms, close-couple and spacer design, and both comprise just a two-part element, cap screws and universal hubs that can be used for either design option.

The close-coupled design is for normal spacing arrangements between motor and driven equipment whilst the spacer unit is for wider spacings.

The hubs and elements have several fixing positions to accommodate multiple shaft gaps.

Key to the coupling design is the flexible element.

The flexible element is manufactured from specially formulated engineering grade polyurethane with additives that provide enhanced tensile and tear strength, increase longevity and provide protection against aggressive working environments.

The flexible element is affixed to metal shoes using special bonding technology that forms a joint stronger than the PU itself and serves to eliminate mechanical fixings.

Moulded into the flexible element is a 'V' notch.

This is designed to form a controlled uniform failure area if an excessive torque overload should occur.

The universal hubs are available off-the-shelf in various designs, including pilot bore, stock finished, taper lock and QD as well as a number of specific OEM designs/sizes.
