Riggs Autopack has helped F Duerr, long established producers of branded and own label jams, marmalades, fruit fillings, peanut butter and other condiments, to expand into new areas

F Duerr and Sons planned to branch out into other markets following a recent GBP1million investment into product diversification Having previously used Riggs Autopack, one of the UK's leading manufacturers of depositing and filling machines, Duerrs had Riggs on its shortlist to help with its new venture of filling honey, into jars and bottles

The decision to go ahead with Riggs, which had previously supplied equipment for product applications with high viscosity, was confirmed following a recommendation from a consultant who had had previous involvement in using Riggs equipment successfully.

Lancashire based Riggs Autopack supplied Duerrs with a four-head fully automatic Model 1000 filling machine, with a customised filling valve for P.E.T bottles.

Clear and set honey are being filled into both glass jars and plastic squeeze top down bottles.

Duerrs chief engineer, Nigel Jones, is delighted with the capabilities of the machine: ''Equipment from Riggs Autopack always works well.

The most recent machine has a changeover time of only 10 minutes, which is remarkable, and its easy operation and maintenance make it a highly efficient piece of machinery'' he said.

The Duerr past experience with Riggs Autopack has been very good and this time round was no exception.

Duerrs was particularly impressed with the machine value for money and the outstanding level of customer care given by the team at Riggs Autopack.

Performing well, the new machine comfortably handles approximately 80 jars per minute or 60 plastic bottles per minute.

This is the first fully automatic machine that Duerrs has purchased from Riggs Autopack and despite some initial issues, Mr Jones was very pleased with the way in which the company tackled them: "Riggs did not shy away from any challenge and the whole team came to work on site to see the project successfully completed.

They faced the equipment trials head-on and that is definitely a key reason why we like to use Riggs.

The Riggs equipment is working efficiently and is able to handle the viscosity of honey very well, whilst providing a clean cut off at the end of fill due to the customised valve that Riggs were able to supply.

Overall we have been delighted with the service and equipment supplied by Riggs and would not hesitate to recommend them to others".
