Rockwell Automation introduces the new KwikLink General Purpose DeviceNet Media system.

Based on a low profile connector and highly flexible flat cable, it provides a quick, versatile and cost effective method of setting up an industrial, device-level network.

KwikLink General Purpose provides all the benefits of the original 'heavy duty' system but is designed as a low cost/high volume package for OEMs in industries such as packaging and assembly.

It is based on a flat 4 -wire cable and IDC (Insulation Displacement Connector).

It allows drop cables to be interfaced to the flat trunk cable and provides plug and play connectivity at minimal cost.

The system allows nodes to be added to the network quickly and easily without interrupting the network.

The General Purpose, KwikLink low profile connector is only 32mm deep and its two-piece design simply snaps onto the flat cable at any point.

By tightening four screws on the connector, the contacts are driven through the cable jacket into the conductors.

Cutting and stripping of the cable is eliminated, significantly reducing installation costs.

The highly flexible flat cable makes installation easy and once installed, the KwikLink connector provides a connection to standard interface cables.

The General Purpose system offers protection to IP67 and is particularly suited to a wide range of applications where the connectors are protected from accidental damage and exposure to liquids.

For more demanding wash-down applications or where the connectors are exposed to aggressive environments, it is recommended that the original heavy-duty connectors and cable are specified.

DeviceNet networks significantly simplify cabling and greatly speed up installation, commissioning and fault-finding.
