Transaction manager software makes 'use'
of data

Modern industrial automation systems produce masses of data - the challenge is to turn it into usable, real-time information that can improve manufacturing performance: this is the role of RSSql

Make better use of real time production data with transaction manager software Modern industrial automation systems produce masses of data - but the challenge is to turn it into usable, real-time information that can help to improve manufacturing performance

Rockwell Automation has developed RSSql, a powerful software tool that automatically collects raw data from control systems and turns it into meaningful information in time to influence events rather than just report on them.

Part of the Rockwell Software BizWare suite of manufacturing management software designed to bridge the gap between plant control and management systems, RSSql is a Windows-based two-way transaction manager able to link time-based and relational databases.

It allows the seamless integration of data from the factory floor and enterprise systems to provide complete traceability of parts and valuable comparisons between actual and forecast production, cost, quality and equipment performance.

If a production process involves, for example, the assembly of several parts to a specification laid down in a customer's order, RSSql can collect data on each part as it goes through the production cycle.

At the end of the process, all this data can be verified against the specification to confirm that all the required parameters are within range before the unit is despatched.

Production managers do not need to wait until the end of the shift for this information - with RSSql it is available instantly, in time to correct any problems, provide full traceability and avoid wasted production.

Rather than rely on manual reporting of production data that is slow and unreliable, RSSql collects data automatically from Allen-Bradley PLC-based control systems, Rockwell Software RSView32 SCADA software and any third party platform using Advance DDE or OPC Server.

On the enterprise side it can link to Microsoft SQL Server 7.0, Oracle or any ODBC compliant database.

A key strength of RSSql is its ability to be deployed on a single computer or distributed across a network.

Even with large systems, it remains reliable and easy to use via a single intuitive interface.

An integrated log view allows the user to troubleshoot problems from a single point, with filtering of events by severity making it easy to drill down to the root cause.

Setting up RSSql is also made easier by a verification function that checks the configuration and highlights any errors or inconsistencies.

Once created, data points and transactions can be created or modified while the system in running without the loss of any data.

RSSql enables production managers to improve the performance of manufacturing plant by providing accurate, timely and consistent information rather than historical reports.

Production errors are minimised and specifications rigorously enforced by the real-time comparison of actual products with the orders contained in the enterprise system.

Finally, automated data collection means work in progress and finished goods inventories are always accurate and up-to-date. Request a free brochure from Rockwell Automation ...
