Apprentices are employed in companies ranging in size from 3M, Glaxo, Filtronic and Thyssenkrupp Automotive to small specialist engineering and maintenance companies.
"Our position in the market, as a premier training provider, has resulted from the culture of providing, enhancing, improving and promoting good practice in all we do.
As a registered charity, SWDT is a not-for-profit organisation and relies heavily on funding - the sponsorship agreement with RS gives us a real opportunity to raise the level of resources that we can offer, not simply to maintain those we have," commented Ian McPherson, Services Training Manager, SWDT: "For example, where previously a class of students would have shared equipment such as digital multimeters, we will now be able to provide enough for everyone in the group and enhance the learning experience.
The opportunity for learners to specify and order parts from RS will also prove invaluable - these type of skills are just as important as sound engineering knowledge in turning out well rounded young engineers who are ready to become useful employees".
Julian Wood, Market Development Manager for RS commented: "At RS we are proud to be sponsoring the work of SWDT.
Currently celebrating our 70th anniversary, we have supplied parts to engineering companies large and small over the years and recognise the tremendous depth of talent the UK has to offer in this field - talent that SWDT does a fantastic job in encouraging and developing for the future".
