Ultrasonic metering of hazardous methanol flows
RS Hydro has recently won a contract to supply 10 Panametrics ISX878 intrinsically safe ultrasonic flow meters to measure methanol flows in 2 inch pipes
All the flow meters are to be housed in a Zone 1 area and must be certified to work in such hazardous areas.
The ISX878 can be used to measure flows in up to 16inch pipelines.
RS Hydro also recently supplied 4 ISX878 flow meters to measure drill mud, water and oil on several Danish offshore platforms.
The Panametrics ISX878 is a loop powered (4-20mA), non invasive ultrasonic flow meter.
It is suitable for measuring most hydrocarbon liquids including petroleum, oils, diesel fuels, chemicals, drilling mud, water and other fluids.
The flowmeter comes with an array of transducers which will enable the meter to measure in pipelines from 1/2 inch to 16 inches (15 to 400mm) diameter.
Due to continual development, the costs of purchase and installation have been reduced significantly as there is no need to install conduit or explosion-proof boxes.
The flow meter is completely non-invasive therefore eliminating the need to shut down the flow or modify the pipe work.
As these sensors are non-contact, there is no wear and tear.
