Although Framework Contracts have been used by BNG to reduce costs and to provide value for money for some time, this is the first time in recent years that such an arrangement has been entered into for an individual business within the Sellafield site.
INS will use its expertise to provide direct support to 30 on-going MOX engineering projects.
Working with 100 BNG engineers, the INS team will provide proof of concept, detailed design, manufacturing and works testing for each of these projects, all of which are dedicated to enhancing the MOX facility.
A BNG spokesman explained: "By using the same experienced contractor for all our existing projects, we expect to improve the quality of design and, by eradicating the learning curve, speed project delivery, saving both time and money".
The areas of expertise of International Nuclear Solutions include waste and nuclear materials handling, processing and storage, including new build facilities where necessary to support the clean-up and decommissioning programme.
In addition, the Company provides support for plant asset care and maintenance of redundant facilities.
The INS Cumbrian office supports an Engineering Group as well as the commercial operating facilities associated with fuel fabrication and spent fuel-reprocessing activities at Sellafield.
There are almost fifty people working at both the INS Cumbrian Office and at the associated client site.
