Intrinsically safe power supply meets
the demand
A new power supply has been designed by the R.Stahl explosion protection division, that can supply more power to field devices whilst remaining intrinsically safe
A new power supply has been designed by the R.Stahl explosion protection division that can supply more power to field devices whilst remaining intrinsically safe This is a step forward for process engineering, where intrinsically safe equipment generally operates at low energy to prevent electrical devices from creating arcs, sparks, or heat that could ignite an explosive substance

Stahl unveils helideck lighting range
Stahl has launched a helideck perimeter lighting range in line with CAP437 and ICAO regulations, which require helicopter landing areas to install new signalling equipment by January 2009.
Driven by demand for an ATEX approved version of R.Stahl popular 9381 power supply, the new 9143 power supply is designed for use in zone 1 and 2.
It is typically used to power 3 or 4 wire transducers, solenoid valves, light barriers, controllers and operating terminals.
Compared to conventional designs that use safety barriers, the R.Stahl new power supply design uses isolator technology, thus eliminating the series resistance to increase the power that can be safely supplied.
Operating on a 24V AC/DC or 85 - 250 V AC input, the IS Pac 9143 power supply range is available with 4V to 17V output.
As with conventional designs, the output is galvanically isolated from the external power supply - the stable, intrinsically safe voltage being set using a potentiometer on the front panel.
The increased power capability widens the application of the power supply to new process automation applications, the flexible supply widening the geographic use of the IS Pac range.
As is the case on all IS pac isolators, the power supply is available with interchangeable screw, spring-clamp, or insulation-displacement connections.
R.Stahl Schaltgeraete 9143 power supply features a compact design with a width of only 35.2 mm.
It is easily mounted by clipping on to flat or high DIN rails.
The IS Pac 9143 intrinsically safe power supply is marked with e II (2) G [Eel ib] IIC/IIB.
