A new range of robust, portable PC-based HMI systems are launched internationally this month Developed through close collaboration with EX specialists R Stahl, the Panasonic CF 18 ATEX Toughbook is approved for use in ATEX zone 2 (T3)

Panasonic, world leader for robust industrial laptops, has granted exclusive European distribution rights to R Stahl HMI Systems for the hazardous area laptop.

The "almost indestructible" laptop is sold by Stahl under the name MT-906, complementing their comprehensive range of HMI systems and industrial computers.

The portable computer is the first of its kind to be approved for use in ATEX zone 2.

A number of features prepare the MT-906 for hazardous environments.

The housing, for example, consists of a robust magnesium alloy and is water-proof and dust-proof (IP54 and MIL-STD 810 F).

The hard drive is protected by a metal housing with a specially formulated damping material to ensure data integrity even under severe mechanical stress.

A dust-proof and water-proof moveable joint connects the XGA display, so that the notebook can be transformed from notepad to tablet PC in one simple move.

A Windows XP Tablet PC Edition operating system provides features such as handwriting recognition to aid use as a tablet, of course the laptop can also run most Windows applications.

The 10.4 inch touchscreen is easily legible even in broad daylight.

Weighing just 2.1 kg, users are truly mobile with the Toughbook.

Thanks to the Ultra Low Voltage Pentium M processor, the MT-906 can be used in the field for up to eight hours before the battery needs to be recharged.

The MT-906 offers standard notebook systems features, including WLAN 802.11 b/g support.

A backlit keyboard is an optional extra for the Toughbook.

Peripheral equipment supplied by Stahl includes additional drives, a kit for installing the Toughbook in vehicles and a port replicator.
