The Sandretto UK expanding automation and ancillaries arm has added Avalon Plastics of Glastonbury to a growing list of satisfied customers for their turnkey service in plastics production

The Sandretto UK expanding automation and ancillaries arm has added Avalon Plastics of Glastonbury to a growing list of customers who are more than satisfied with the performance of the company's turnkey service in robotics and other plastics production ancillaries The turnkey project at the Somerset-based moulder included the commission and installation of two linear robots, cooling, material handling and dosing equipment for a new plastics moulding production cell at the company

The new Avalon moulding cell - based around a 1000 tonne locking force injection moulding machine - also incorporated a Greenbox chiller system chosen for its modular benefits and allowing additional chillers to be linked in series when additional production expansion occurs in future.

Keith Butler, Avalon Plastics Managing Director says that 'following the installation of the new robots and ancillaries we have seen an immediate increase in productivity of 20% so far.

This, together with a 50% reduction in labour needs for the two machine cell'.

Butler adds that 'the new Dal Maschio 3E 1500's are also proving to be a real hit with our setters and technicians: They're so simple and quick to set up and are very easy in use and maintenance'.

Led by Sandretto UK Automation and Ancillaries Manager, Chris Whitlam, the Sandretto UK team carried out a full site survey at Avalon Plastics in order to schedule and plan the injection moulding machinery positions together with automation and ancillary equipment.

Part of the installation process involved the use of a Peloby overhead crane.

Word of Sandretto UK's expertise in automation produced high demand at the company's stand at Interplas 05, the UK's plastics exhibition at the NEC, Birmingham, from October 4-6.

Sandretto UK used the opportunity to demonstrate its new partnership with Kawasaki in six-axis robot technology.

Says Chris Whitlam: 'These robots are typically employed where additional and complex post-moulding operations are required - or where a high degree of dexterity is needed in removing the part from the mould.

Part of the reason for our successful partnership with Kawasaki is the way in which the six axis expertise perfectly complements the design and operational simplicity of our three axis Dal Maschio range,' adds Whitlam.
