New DVD discusses best practice for safety
An unprecedented new DVD discusses current best practice for safety, exploring in depth the common mistakes and confusion surrounding the IEC61508 and IEC61511 standards for functional safety
Compiled by the Safety Users Group, this new DVD, "Safety in the process industries" shares the real life experience of 11 leading safety experts from around the world.
These include people like Thomas Steiner (Emerson Process Management), Pasquale Fanelli (Invensys Process Systems), Christian Huglo (Lawyer at the Paris and Brussels bar) and Ron Bell, chairman of the IEC 61508/1-2 Working Group.
The Safety Users Group believes that the DVD will promote best practice and improve safety in the process industries by engaging safety users and increasing awareness of safety in the field.
The Safety Users Group President, Didier Turcinovic commented, "Dealing with safety every day, I can see that an increase in awareness and understanding throughout the safety arena is essential.
This doesn't just mean the safety specialists, but those having management responsibilities, project engineers, integrators, plant production and maintenance teams through to the legal department - safety matters to everyone".
This top-down approach is reflected in the new DVD, which considers issues from the technical detail of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and their relevance to IEC 61508/61511, through to how demonstrating best practice in safety can support companies in a court of law.
Ron Bell commented, "There is no excuse for ignorance concerning safety.
As a consultant I help companies improve their procedures - but this means nothing if the company management, and those staff having specific responsibilities for functional safety, are not competent to carry out their responsibilities.
This DVD provides a practical resource for staff training, and for improving the understanding of functional safety within an organisation".
The new 2 DVD box set is available at a cost of euro90 or USD115 from 1st July 2007.
Readers can see a trailer from the DVD on the website.
