The UK's premier packaging solutions company, Sirane, has made another addition to its 'dream team' of managers, in order to drive the company to the forefront of packaging innovation in Europe.

Bob Whitwood, most recently of Bischop and Klein UK, and a former associate and work colleague of Sirane directors Simon Balderson and Ian Beardsall, is now working at the Telford based company His appointment - and background in new materials, materials science and product development - will be key to the Sirane plans and ambitions in developing all kinds of new packaging throughout industry

'We are delighted to have secured Bob's services,' says Balderson.

'His scientific expertise and focus and creative thinking will give all our forthcoming innovations and product development a real boost.

When we formed the business the 'dream team' approach was always part of our thinking in creating our new company and with Bob's appointment a significant part of the jigsaw has been put into place'.

Bob Whitwood says that 'Sirane is the best possible place where I can use my particular skills and talents: already I am working on a number of new variants for the Sirane fully compostable Resolve products - aiming to develop and grow the material into new sectors and applications.

I am also training our 90 plus employees in hygiene matters - ready for an increase in production in that area.

Whitwood adds that 'successful innovation and new product work is, for me, about making a product that is fit-for-purpose and right for the client.

All the innovations that Sirane creates are in the service of the market and the client need, which is why the company has grown as fast as it has'.

Whitwood has an Honours degree in Chemistry from York University, extensive experience in ISO 9000 systems and hygiene management (ADAS + BRC) systems and is an ADAS / Institute of Packaging accredited Hygiene trainer.

As well as his quality and hygiene skills he has a history of very successful product development, from conception to final product sales, including manufacturing scale-up, technical support and customer service.

Whitwood began his career with the Evode group - and his main commercial and industrial background is in the food packaging, plastics and adhesives industries.

Since its foundation in 2003, Sirane turnover has more than doubled through every year and the trend is set to continue through 2007.

Sirane has recentlly successfully returned from exhibiting its products and expertise at this year's largest food and beverage exhibition in Chicago, USA and will be represented at the London Food Packaging Forum later this month and at the European Bioplastics Conference in Paris at the same time.
