Leading UK seafood company, Dawnfresh Seafoods, has succeeded in launching the UK Seafood Industry's first compostable packaging solution It will consist of an easy peel, jumbo, ready to eat prawn - and will be marketed in a six month exclusive deal with the retailer

The 160g cooked in shell product is being offered at a trial price in ASDA of GBP1.98 before being given a RSP of GBP2.78.

Says Simon Balderson, Sirane director, 'we are very excited to be a part of this venture with Dawnfresh and ASDA.

Expertise in compostability and absorbency are key parts of the Sirane innovation and technology portfolio - and this new seafood pack makes big use of both.

There's nothing else like it on the market today'.

The ASDA prawn pack is a complete bio-degradable solution.

The key components include: tray, lid, absorbent pad and C-strap label - all made from compostable and/or biodegradable materials.

Not only is the Sirane absorbent pad in the pack compliant to the new European compostable standard EN 1342 but Sirane has also had it tested to the new DIN Certco standard, and the Sirane pad is now being tested to the new home composting standard.

This year will see Sirane launch a number of additional packaging products for the seafood industry and play its part in the sector exhibition calendar.

Since its foundation in 2003, the Sirane turnover has more than doubled through every year and the trend is set to continue through 2007.
