Sirane offers advice on environmental
packaging
The premier UK packaging solutions company, Sirane, has launched a campaign of information and packaging-related products for the UK public sector
Says Simon Balderson, Sirane Director: 'there is a substantial amount of diversity and confusion in industry about the purpose and value of much environmental packaging - be it compostable, degradable, recyclable or recycled Small wonder then, that the specifying and purchasing functions in the public sector - in councils, hospitals, schools, and general utilities - are often at a loss what to do, what to buy and how to dispose of the packaging within their remit'

Compostable packaging for the flower trade
The UK's premier packaging solutions company, Sirane, has launched a new brand of compostable packaging for the international flower trade, entitled Flowerfresh
Accordingly, Sirane has taken out a double-page advertorial spread within the most recent biennial directory of the Public Service Review.
The advertorial explains some of the issues involved in today's packaging waste streams, and presents a couple of Sirane odour control products which have been developed in partnership with local disposables manufacturer CeDo .
'Both CeDo and ourselves have some excellent environmental products which we want the public sector to know about,' says Balderson.
'But we are concerned to do much more than push one solution versus another.
The public sector needs to have issues of packaging construction and disposability explained to it - and we are more than happy to do our part in this job'.
The recent commercial growth and success of Sirane has been based on the ability of the business to design and manufacture packaging to the customer's wishes - a large part of which includes considerations for the environment and for disposability.
The Telford-based business now employs some 90 people and has grown to a GBP7million plus turnover from a standing start in 2003.
The new Sirane factory in Stafford Park, Telford, occupies some 40,000 sq ft and Balderson pledges that 'we are equipping it to the highest possible standards - aiming to make Sirane the safest and most hygienic food packaging company in Europe'.
New equipment is being sourced and new jobs created in order to meet the increasing Sirane order book.
Balderson says that 'Sirane is committed to packaging innovation in the service of the client.
And not just the business client, or the direct client, but also the public environments in which packaging is seen, used and disposed.
The packaging environment is fast changing and we very much hope that our initiative in this area will lead to useful action in the public sector'.
