A simple-to-operate, portable test system which provides accurate and reliable monitoring of a wide range of environmental samples, has recently been introduced by SDI Europe, the specialists in diagnostic test and monitoring equipment DeltaTox is designed for the rapid testing and evaluation of multiple samples at remote locations involving water, wastewater, industrial discharges, soils and sediments

DeltaTox technology is based upon the validated and well documented Microtox test system which uses a special strain of freeze-dried luminescent bacteria as biosensors to detect biological effects of contaminants present in test samples.
Any inhibition of normal metabolism, such as that caused by toxicity, results in decreased luminescence.
The higher the level of toxicity, the greater the inhibition of light production.
The system uses test reagent which is conveniently packaged and can be instantly rehydrated and used immediately for testing.
It also operates at ambient temperatures (10-30C) and so enables flexibility of field testing under variable environmental conditions.
The DeltaTox analyser is capable of performing the dual functions of toxicity testing and ATP measurements and the test results, which are available in minutes, are derived from the data without the need for complex calculations.
Also, data can be stored in the unit and then easily downloaded to a PC for further analysis.
The reliability and portability of the DeltaTox analyser has meant that drinking water utilities, testing for intentional contamination of water supplies, use it for frequent and accurate toxicity screening.
Other applications include, toxicity testing of wastewater sumps and leachates, water quality monitoring of final effluents, toxicity screening of industrial process and waste treatment streams, monitoring of surface water for environmental impact studies, field testing of sediment and soil extracts and screening of stormwater and combined sewer overflows.
