Celsius Design uses Breezair Evaporative Air Coolers ducted with steam heater batteries to provide innovative heating and cooling for the new Premier Foods factory air handling system

When Premier Foods needed to rebuild two factories following a major fire at the company site in Bury St Edmunds, in October 2004, it decided to replace its air handling system with a state-of-the-art heating and cooling system

Turning to heating and cooling specialist, Celsius Design, to provide it with a cost effective solution, Celsius devised an innovative solution comprising of Breezair Evaporative Air Coolers ducted with steam heater batteries.

One of the UK's leading food companies, Premier Foods manufactures some of the nation's favourite foods and drinks like Typhoo, Cadbury Drinking Chocolate and Branston.

Its site at Bury St Edmunds comprising of two facilities measuring 16,000 square metres and 9,600 square metres respectively, produce a range of products including Haywards Pickles and Loyd Grossman Cooking Sauces.

Prior to the installation of the Breezair system, the factories experienced high heat gains during the summer months.

When external temperatures in the height of summer reached 28C, internal temperatures, when combined with heat emitted from the operating plant, reached around 32C, making conditions uncomfortable for the workforce.

Following an in-depth survey, Celsius Design calculated that it would require a total of 20 Breezair coolers ducted two per inlet into 10 ducts.

Each duct was fitted with a steam heat battery, which helps temper the incoming air in the winter months to provide year round comfort for the personnel.

Extraction is provided using 20 natural vents.

Celsius installed all the air coolers, providing all roof steelwork, flashings, ducting, electrical wiring and pneumatic controls for the natural vents.

The project was completed on time and within budget.

"The combination of Breezair Evaporative Cooling and the steam heater batteries has created an effective system which is working really efficiently", says Jan Ling, Projector Engineer for Premier Foods.

"As very little electrical power, water, and no CFC refrigerants are used, it is far more environmentally friendly than other air conditioning systems".

The only company to provide a full range of evaporative coolers for a cross section of industries and applications, the Seeley International RPX, EA, TBA, ICON and Mobile air coolers incorporate the most advanced evaporate cooling technology in the world.

The systems are economic to install, provide healthier working conditions and consume far less energy than conventional air-conditioning systems.

Far more versatile than standard cooling methods, Breezair is capable of providing sufficient cool air to overflow and prevent hot air entering a building.

As fresh air is continually drawn from outside, then passed over a saturated medium and washed, the potential for "sick building" syndrome from constantly circulating air is avoided.

The Breezair is suitable for both commercial and industrial applications in a spectrum of industries that include agriculture, horticulture, manufacturing, catering and hotels, and public and residential buildings.

Manufactured to the highest standards, the Breezair is backed by 30 years of Seeley International experience in climate control and the company's commitment to excellence in customer service.
