The installation of five Breezair evaporative coolers into the Reinforced Tower and Carbon Areas at Jones Stroud Insulations in Preston, Lancashire by specialist heating, venting and cooling company, CoSaf Environments, has alleviated oppressively hot summer temperatures of in excess of 35C to a more comfortable working environment of 25C Such has been the success of the Breezair cooling produced by Seeley International (Europe) that Jones Stroud Insulations is now expanding the cooling system to other areas of the factory

Part of the German based Krempel Group, a high tech company specialising in the field of electrical insulation engineering, Jones Stroud Insulations is a manufacturer of a comprehensive range of prepegs, consumer products and electrical insulation materials.
Production of the prepegs involves coating various grades of woven carbon-fibre fabrics with epoxy resin in the Carbon Area and then baking them in 11, eight-metre high process ovens housed in three-storey reinforced towers.
Heat from the ovens gradually built up in summer, resulting in temperatures at the apex of the towers reaching in excess of 45C.

Although air extraction equipment had been installed at the top of the towers, there was no fresh air supply within the Carbon Area.
The extraction system worked well when temperatures were between 12 and 14C but temperatures above this level diminished the cooling effect.
Consequently, when outside temperatures reached in excess of 20C, warm air was being introduced exacerbating the problem.
In the Carbon Area, where there was no extraction system, heat built up from the production process and the use of gas consuming appliances.
Turning to CoSaf Environments for a solution to the problem, the company suggested the installation of a Seeley International Breezair Evaporative Cooling System.
A CoSaf engineer carried out a site survey of Jones Stroud Insulations Carbon Area and Reinforced Towers and specified the installation of five Breezair coolers together with two extraction units in the Carbon area to balance the cooling system.
"We had previously invited another company to resolve the problem but they failed miserably", said Duncan McKnight, Chief Engineer at Jones Stroud Insulations: "The CoSaf concept of combining our existing extraction system with Breezair evaporative cooling has provided us with a cost effective solution that has solved the problem".
CoSaf engineers have custom-made the cooling system to suit each individual area.
The Breezair units have been installed on the outside of the building, and cooled, fresh air introduced via aluminium ducting dropping vertically down with distribution ductwork and air grille diffusers directing air into the central areas to provide temperature relief.
"The Breezair coolers have had a very positive effect on our workforce and made a great difference to staff morale", concluded Duncan McKnight: "Our senior managers have been so impressed by the transformation in working conditions that we have now installed Breezair cooling into other areas of the factory".
The Breezair system is controlled by the Seeley International Industrial Wall Control (IWC), which enables the Breezair cooling system to be controlled at the touch of a button.
The IWC identifies any faulty cooler in a group and the cooler electronic module provides comprehensive fault diagnostics enabling it to be quickly repaired.
Breezair coolers contain large high efficiency cooling pads that are kept wet by a pump and water distribution system.
Air is drawn through the pads by a powerful fan and is cooled by the evaporative process, providing a constant flow of naturally cooled, fresh air, without any air being recirculated.
The evaporative process is particularly good for sealed, hygienic environments as most contaminants within the water supply are scrubbed out within the air cooler and do not pass through the cooler into the cooled zones.
Breezair Evaporative Air Coolers are the only air coolers in the world to have passed the stringent German Hygiene Standard VDI-6022.
