Stem Drive has just completed a project for Laing O'Rourke on behalf of Anglian Water Services for its patented, non-blocking, air mixing system for maintaining solids in suspension at Thetford STW.

The fluidic mixing plant was required for two new sludge holding tanks, one for surplus activated sludge (SAS) prior to thickening and the other for co-settled sludge from the PSTs.

The mixing plant ensures that the sludge is maintained in a homogeneous state.

Stem Drive manufactures and installs patented, submersible, fluidic mixers for mixing and aerating liquids and slurries in the chemical, process, food manufacturing, and water and effluent treatment industries.

The innovative mixing system for maintaining solids in suspension was exhibited in October 2004 at WEFTEC.04, New Orleans, USA, and IFEST, Ghent, Belgium and also at IWEX, Birmingham, UK in October 2005.

The mixer has no moving parts, is non-blocking, maintenance free, suitable for use in arduous and hazardous environments and is widely used by the major water companies and authorities in the UK.

The external power source is out-with the mixing vessel, keeping maintenance to a minimum, is usually compressed air, biogas, nitrogen or steam.

Systems are easy to install, and can be fitted without emptying tanks, eliminating the need for plant shutdown.
