Hora valves help combat legionella bacteria
Hora BR 216 RGA-TW and BR 316 RGA-TW control valves respond to an increasingly urgent problem: the special design is helping in systems that reduce the occurrence of legionella bacteria
Hora BR 216 RGA-TW and BR 316 RGA-TW control valves respond to an increasingly urgent problem: the special design is helping to reduce the occurrence of legionella bacteria.
These special Hora valves, available from mid-2004, meet the latest German Drinking Water Ordinance (TrinkwV 2001).
This ordinance forms the basis on which, since 2003, the public health authorities have been required to test the quality of the drinking water in all systems in which water is made available to the public.
The bacteria that cause Legionnaires' disease reproduce rapidly in warm water, in the temperature range of 25C to 45C.
Therefore, special attention must be given to the hot water supply systems in hospitals, old people's and nursing homes, spa and balneological facilities, hotels or army barracks.
Legionnaires' disease is a sever form of pneumonia.
It has symptoms of high fever, coughing, breathing difficulties, diarrhoea and a general feeling of tiredness.
In older people and those with a weakened immune system, it can even prove fatal.
Water droplets with the bacteria contained in vapour or steam which are breathed in and enter the lungs, transmitting the infection.
The bacteria are only gradually killed at temperatures over 60C.
It is therefore essential to take preventive action as quickly as possible.
The Hora valves are used directly in the treatment system, using the new HORA BR 216 RGA-TW and BR 316 RGA-TW control valves.
