Sigpack Systems wins top German packaging award

The German Packaging Institute, Berlin, has honoured Sigpack Systems, a company of Bosch Packaging Technology, with the prestigious award for the Best Sales Packaging for its new Pull Pack concept

The German Packaging Institute, Berlin, has honoured Sigpack Systems, a company of Bosch Packaging Technology, with the prestigious award for the Best Sales Packaging for its new Pull Pack concept.

The German Packaging Awards are judged by a jury of distinguished experts from the Institute, who recognised Sigpack Systems innovation in the Pull Pack mechanism.

Essentially, the Pull Pack consists of a perforation made in the wrapper that ensures air tightness, yet can be opened with a simple tug of one end of the pack.

The Awards give public prominence to innovations in packaging.

Competition for the Sales Packaging award was fierce, with over 150 submissions.

While there have been attempts to make tubular flow wraps easy to open - such as using tear tapes or zigzag cuts, Sigpack Systems Pull Pack allows for a simpler and better controlled opening.

The consumer simply holds the main part of the pack and pulls the shorter end off with the other hand.

The package opens cleanly along the perforation that is hidden beneath a folded flap.

The short part of the pack can be used to carry added value offers such as competitions, prize draws or co-sponsorship on the pack.

Such measures are a proven means of repositioning brands or raising sales.

For Sigpack Systems, Bruno Oberle, Head of Marketing, and Marius Wirthlin, General Manager Sales Europe, collected the award during the Nuremberg Packaging Fair.

Bruno Oberle stated: "We are delighted to win the award - it reinforces Sigpack Systems willingness to not only provide advanced machines and systems, but to improve our customer commercial success as well.
