TTL-i consolidates Caribbean confectioners
Sigpack Systems is helping the leading manufacturer of chocolate confectionery, snack foods and biscuits in the Caribbean, by packaging 14 different products in 7 different tray sizes on one machine!
Sigpack Systems is helping Associated Brands Industries Limited (ABIL), the leading manufacturer and distributor of chocolate confectionery, snack foods and biscuits in the Caribbean, to consolidate its packaging line by packaging 14 different products in 7 different tray sizes with just one machine.
ABIL was founded in 1974 and over the years has built up an extensive portfolio of brands.
Their manufacturing facilities are all located in Trinidad with distribution outlets in Jamaica, Barbados and St Lucia.
In total, the company currently distributes its products to over 20 countries worldwide, reaching as far as Taiwan and Ireland.
ABIL has been expanding progressively over the years, constantly adding new products to its lines.
As part of this expansion and development, ABIL called on Sigpack Systems to improve efficiency at its San Juan plant in Trinidad by installing one toploader robot system to package a wide variety of products.
The new Sigpack Systems TTL-i Toploader will package 14 different product formats in 7 different tray sizes.
With such format variety, the main ABIL prerogative was to introduce a secondary packaging solution that simplifies and speeds up changeovers.
With a compact footprint, the TTL-i combines three functionalities, tray forming, tray toploading and tray closing.
The intelligent robot handling of the TTL-i makes it possible to perform handling and toploading of the trays in a compact footprint.
All supply lines for vacuum, pneumatic air pressure and electrical sensors are integrated in a connecting plate, which holds the product gripper.
Changing the gripper for a new product format is easy, as the operator does not have to worry about the reconnection of additional cables and plugs.
For optimum ease of use and simplicity, changeable parts are kept to a minimum.
The tray forming and closing tools are adjustable for the whole format range, so operators do not have to disassemble the machine for a format change over.
All this can be performed tool free and Sigpack Systems can deliver customer training to ensure the speediest changeovers.
This allows line operators to handle format changeover without supervision, which saves both time and money, removing the need for highly skilled maintenance staff every time a format change is needed.
With over 100 years of experience and technical development in the field, Sigpack Systems was able to offer ABIL a bespoke solution from system design, development and installation to training and after sale support.
