Bayer contract for pressure transmitter supply
Bayer Polymers and Siemens Automation and Drives have signed a contract for the delivery and service of Sitrans P DS III pressure transmitters, covering four years and 5000 transmitters per year
Bayer awards contract for pressure transmitters to Siemens; Bayer Polymers and Siemens Automation and Drives (A and D) have signed a contract for the delivery and service of Sitrans P DS III pressure transmitters.
The contract runs for four years and consists of a projected volume of 5000 transmitters per year to be supplied by Siemens to the worldwide production plants of Bayer Polymers.
The impetus for this "Global Skeleton Supply and Service Agreement" came from the fine results of extensive testing of the Sitrans P DS III digital pressure transmitter, which has been in use at Bayer as a standard field device since November 2001.
Another factor in Bayer's decision to go with Siemens - aside from the technical quality of the product - was the global presence and worldwide support offered by Siemens, especially in Asian markets.
The contract supports Bayer's push towards standardisation of their plant equipment.
In addition to Bayer Polymers, the other three divisions of the Bayer Group - Chemicals, Healthcare and Crop Science - can also take advantage of the contract.
The Sitrans P DS III pressure transmitter is now the third generation of the Sitrans device family for measuring absolute pressure, pressure difference, fill level and flow rate.
Since their launch in 1993, the Sitrans-P pressure transmitters have been continuously developed in cooperation with the chemicals industry.
For example, the devices come equipped with diagnostic functions developed in cooperation with Namur, the standardisation association for measurement and control technology in the chemicals industry.
Bayer Polymers is an amalgamation of the former business groups Plastics, Polyurethane, Rubber and Coating, Colorants and special fields as well as Bayer Faser GmbH.
It employs a staff of roughly 23,000 and achieved total sales of some 10.8 billion euros in 2002, making the new company one of the biggest polymer businesses in the world.
Thanks to its presence at over 120 locations worldwide, Bayer Polymers is a true "global player".
A strong position which offers a variety of growth and earning opportunities in connection with a high synergy potential.
